"Spajazzy"

The Birth
One cold night in March of '97 on the red line from
Boston to Cambridge on the way to a Mike Stern performance the idea of SPAJAZZY was born. Tino
had been unable to play due to an injuryand on this
night Sergio gave him a set of bass strings. He
told Tino, that he was sure he was going to feel better
soon and they spoke ofmaking a CD together
and dreamed of having Mike Stern play on it.
Six months later, while they were having an espresso
(of course), Jim Kelly walked into the cafe and the SPAJAZZY project.
The dream started to become reality as Jim donated not only his tunes, but his enormous talent.

The rest of the story is on the CD.

..and the Facts!
It was the cold winter of `97 when SERGIO BELLOTTI
and TINO D`AGOSTINO (two BERKLEE college of
music graduates) talked about putting together a CD
with a "very special" guest, perhaps MIKE STERN . . .
These thoughts and dreams started to become reality when JIM KELLY (guitar professor at BERKLEE)
showed his interest in donating some of his great compositions and natural talent on guitar.
After few rehearsals with two other BERKLEE alumni
(Bill Vint on sax and Patrik Andren on keyboards),
the band finally recorded 3 songs with "guitar legend" MIKE STERN. The CD, entitled SPAJAZZY, included
originals by D`AGOSTINO, KELLY
and also two standards.
The recording sessions were followed by a first tour in EUROPE (march`98) with performances in
ITALY, SWITZERLAND and IRELAND.

The line up was:
JIM KELLY, guitar
TINO D`AGOSTINO, bass
SERGIO BELLOTTI, drums.

Another TOUR in july of the same year saluted
the actual release of the album.  Performances were held
in ITALY at jazz clubs and venues including two concerts at :
"VALLO DELLA LUCANIA" jazz festival. In November
of `98 "jazz master" STEVE HUNT on keyboards
(formerly with ALLAN HOLLDSWORTH, STANLEY CLARKE, BILLY COBHAM and KENNY G
on several albums and tours), joined SPAJAZZY.
The new exciting quartet toured ITALY
(8 concerts and a live radio-show) and shortly
after performed few dates in their hometown
BOSTON (USA), including an official CD release
party on board of the luxury cruise ship “ODYSSEY".
That night the band officially announced the major European distribution of the album with DYMUSIC
(European distributor for ARABESQUE, JAZZHEAD RECORDS, CHIAROSCURO and more).
The track "Son finite le vergini"
(written by D`AGOSTINO) has been featured on the companion CD of  “JAZZ IMPRO MAGAZINE" (feb.’99) which also includes tracks by
MILES DAVIS, SONNY STITT and LEE MORGAN.
(The above is a quarterly publication, distributing 50,000 copies at Tower Records and Barnes
& Nobles nationwide). Several reviews and articles
on SPAJAZZY can be found also on the world wide
web by simply typing the name of the band into any search engineand on many music magazines
all around the world.
(Check out the "reviews" section on the band`s web page).
